CITI Program: Create Your Account

University of Pittsburgh — Office of Research Protections

The University of Pittsburgh requires completion of CITI training modules for all individuals involved in the conduct of research. Visit the ORP website for detailed information on training courses and requirements, as required courses are based on the type of research being conducted.

To simplify access and track course completion, Pitt has a special portal to access CITI using the HSConnect login. Users must go through the Pitt CITI Access Portal to affiliate with the University — there is no way to directly affiliate from the CITI website.

⚠ Important: All new investigators and research team members (including non-Pitt/UPMC personnel) must create an account at hsconnect.pitt.edu. If you have completed CITI courses at another institution, accounts can be merged by following the steps below. We accept modules completed within the past 2 years (non-Refresher modules only).

Do you have an HSConnect account? Please go to hsconnect.pitt.edu to verify.

  • YES Proceed to Step 2.
  • NO Go to hsconnect.pitt.edu, create your account, then proceed to Step 2.
  • UNSURE Contact orp_support@pitt.edu or call HSConnect Support at (412) 648-2222 before proceeding.

Go to citi.pitt.edu and click Log In to CITI

The login site will have 2 options for login. Select the option that matches your affiliation:

Pitt users

University of Pittsburgh account holders with a Pitt username and password. Pitt User

U
UPMC users

UPMC employees or affiliates using UPMC credentials to access CITI.Other User

O
Other users

Non-Pitt, non-UPMC collaborators or external research team members. Other User

Create or Link your CITI account

Select the path below that matches your situation:

New to CITI

No prior CITI account

  1. Select "I don't have a CITI Program Account."
  2. Click Create CITI Account to proceed.
  3. You will be redirected to complete your CITI Member Profile and begin course selection.

Have an existing CITI account

From another institution

  1. Select "I already have a CITI Program Account."
  2. When prompted, enter your existing CITI username and password from your previous institution.
  3. Confirm the merge to link your prior CITI record with your new Pitt-associated account.
  4. Prior completions within the last 2 years (non-Refresher modules) will be recognized.
